World Cup Qualifying

With South Africa as host country, at the World Cup 2010 will compete 5 teams from Africa, 13 from Europe, 4 from South America and Asia and 3 teams from South America. The remaining two places will be taken in additional qualifications between Oceania and Asia, and South America and CONCACAF (North, Central America and Caribbean).

As always, on the final World Cup tournament will participate 32 teams, which will be divided in eight groups.

European qualifying

Eight groups with six teams and one group with five teams are drawn out on 25 November 2007.

Nine group winners will qualify automatically, while the eight best second teams will play additional qualification, so four teams more will qualify for World Cup 2010

South American qualifying

COMMEBOL qualifiers are being played as a league with ten nations. First four teams will qualify for World Cup in South Africa, while the fifth team will play against the fourth team from CONCACAF, so one of them will qualify for the World Cup 2010.

Asian qualifying

Asian qualifying consist of 4 rounds. The first three already have been completed, and the top 10 teams now compete in round 4.

In the fourth round 10 teams has been divided into two groups with five teams each. Top two teams from each group will qualify for the World Cup 2010. Third team from each group will play two matches and so decide who will play against team from Oceanian qualifying.

African qualifying

African qualifications consist of 3 rounds. The first two already have been completed, and the top 20 teams now compete in round 3.

In the third round top 20 teams are divided into 5 groups with 4 teams each, and the winner of each grup will qualify for World Cup in South Africa.

Also, this is the qualification for the African Cup of Nations 2010. Therefore, in this phase of qualification joining South Africa, and if South African team win first place in the group – second team for this group will qualify for World Cup 2010.

CONCACAF (North, Central America and Caribbean qualifying)

Concaf qualifications consist of 3 rounds. The first two already have been completed, and the top 6 teams now compete in round 3. In the final phase six teams will play in one group, from which the first three teams will qualify for World Cup in South Africa. The fourth team will play additional qualifications against the fifth team of South American qualifying.

Oceanian qualifying

Qualifying consist 2 rounds. The first round has been completed, and the top 3 teams now compete in round 2.

Three teams from the first round in the second round joined New Zealand. This is the Oceania Nations Cup. Four teams plays as a league, and the first two will play the mutual matches and winner will play against the team from Asia, winner from this match will qualify for World Cup 2010.
